Paediatrician update. Miss L. 12/4/13

Paed update for Miss L:
We see Veronika Kretzer at PMH for L and today was a general check up. The nurse weighed and measured her:
10kg and 81cm. Such a big step forward!
Then we waited over an hour :( Struggle street right there with 2 girls.
First off we discussed her general health. Her consistent viruses and chesty coughs were examined last time. Her immunity tests came back clear as did her chest X-ray. So why she gets sick so often and so badly is a mystery. The Dr prescribed a preventive ventolin as it sounds asthma related. Something else to look out for.
Then we talked about her blood results from January. B12 levels were average but her MMA was up. Meaning her B12 may be on the way down or its not getting used properly. Her iron and folate were all good. My tests came back abnormal too. B12 was in the average range but on the low side but my MMA levels were still up. I was referred to a haematologist in October but haven't been seen yet. So the Paed actually rang their office and left a message saying she wanted to speak to them. She said a kick up the bum might help.
Next we talked about her unique style of walking consisting of flat feet, a wide based gait and constant falling over. Due to this she is referring her to a podiatrist to see if orthotics or braces may help.
As Miss L is now more active and mocing around she wants her to be seen by a rheumatologist, as they can look at her hypermobile joints and see if any damage is being done. Often the joints wear quicker due to overuse and overextension. This can lead to early arthritis.
As for the eating sand she said it can be a sign of deficiency, so off for more blood tests to make sure she is ok and not missing any vitamins or minerals. The Dr said that may explain her going off food for 2 weeks too.
If you follow on Facebook you may remember when she took a tumble and spilt the skin holding her top lip down (frenulum) well she checked that too and said its healing well.

A full on appt that left Miss L crying for sleep and Miss A grumpy and biting back. We have some answers though and I was told the next MRI is about August all going well.
Whew think that's all for now?

Colouring in, a very empty waiting room as everyone went to lunch.

11:30 appointment and we are still waiting.
