Miss L- development review 18months

Well Tuesday was the day when we met with the development team at the hospital: PMH.
As of the 25th Miss L was 18 months so we had a new assessment done. The pressure was on because the results of this would determine whether she was eligible for ongoing therapy.
Unfortunately on the day poor Miss L really wasn't well. I've been updating Facebook as she has been sick since before Melbourne :(
She had a high temperature and was bright red. The first part was meeting with the Paediatrician.
She did the Griffiths test (test details ) again and looked at:
  • pincer grip
  • stacking blocks
  • getting things in and out
  • speech
  • banging blocks
  • pushing a car along
  • basic puzzles
While there we talked about how long Miss L had been unwell for and that we were waiting on the results of the last blood test.
The Paed talked about how small Miss L looked and that she hasn't caught up as much as expected.
The next room we met with the physio, OT and speech. As she wasn't feeling well it was a bit of struggle to get everything done. We did see Miss L stack 2 blocks on top of each other and she is starting to let go of things. She will put toys into containers and drop toys into your hand. That has been a step for her!
She didn't want to do any crawling or climbing so the physio just went based on her notes.

In the end we all met and discussed what the results were. Speech is still the lowest score but her average was 10.5 months. Meaning she is at least 8 months behind in her development. At her last assessment she was developmentally between 6.5 and 8 months so in about 5 months she has only added about 2 months. That is what the Paed saying she hadn't "caught up" as must as she would have liked.

The positive of this though is she retains her diagnosis and gets referred to therapy in the community. At PMH they only do early intervention therapy until age 2. So in the next few months we get to choose a local provider to take over her therapy. Like Miss A with the Centre for Cerebral Palsy therapists can come to us or we go to them.

So now we wait for the referral and work on getting Miss L to be as healthy as possible so we can learn some new skills.
